I very much like the homopolar idea and the train. That reminded me of some things that can make people wow and are fun to make using magnets. 1- A simple motor using magnets (I like to mount them on a soup can), a battery and a coil with half the insulation stripped from the ends (so as t= o act like brushes and keep connecting disconnecting the battery as the coil revolves). 2- A homemade speaker. Wrap a coil of enamel wire many turns around a magnet. Mount it on an empty can and connect it to a computer or iPod and listen to the sound coming from the can (you can also have them experiment with different materials and different shapes, e.g. difference between a soup can, and Styrofoam cups. For example the soup can will have louder but metallic sound, the cup will be more muffled and lower volume. You will als= o need to determine ahead of time how many turns are needed to provide appropriate impedance to the computer/iPod/etc -- View this message in context: http://microcontrollers.2385.n7.nabble.com/EE= -Making-career-day-fun-tp194422p194608.html Sent from the MicroControllers - PIC mailing list archive at Nabble.com. --=20 http://www.piclist.com/techref/piclist PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
