> > > Introduce them to Eddie Currents. ;-) > > 2nd the Eddie Currents I was absolutely intrigued with a demo of Eddie currents. A horse shoe magnet and a rectangular section of aluminium. One end of the of the aluminium section was slotted. Passing the non-slotted end thru the magnet was met with resistance while passing the slotted end offered no resistance at all. I have seen variations on the theme and I am still a huge fan of the experiment. As a young person I knew that aluminium was not attracted to magnets so the fact the magnets had an effect on the aluminium had me intrigued. Remember, that kids just love to show their understanding and also want to learn, so give them lots and lots of opportunity to answer and ask questions. I often see little master/miss bursting with enthusiasm and never get the opportunity to have their say. I have seen science road shows with really cool stuff but not allow enough time for the kids to have their input. I think just a little bit of show and leave the rest to their enquiring minds with questions and answers will definitely consume 15 mins.
