Q. If there are three 2v light globes in series connected to a 6v battery so all lights are glowing, then the center globe is removed and the a voltmeter is used to measure the voltage across the contacts at the center globe holder what will be the reading. This was accompanied with a diagram, an explanation that the battery was an ideal battery and the voltmeter was ideal in that it had infinite impedance and that the question is straight forward and not a trick question. I think it was approx 1/3 of the applicants that answered correctly. Additionally, many of the existing staff were also asked and the results were not encouraging. My question originated because I electrocuted myself while testing a string of Christmas lights when i was very young and the globes clearly indicated they were 14v globes which puzzled me for quite some time. --=20 http://www.piclist.com/techref/piclist PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
