thanks for all the suggestions =85.. I will be installing a new SSR with a=20 large aluminum heat sink on the back of the dryer on the outside=20 where it will have plenty of air flow. The SSR will now have the microswitch in series with the SSR input. I will use the normally closed pin on the microswitch rather than the normally open pin. I have replaced the microswitch as it appears to be a defective one. It was damaged from an earlier incident , not from the SSR melting. I will be using 12VDC and no in-series resistor. I think I may put a thermal shutoff ( 70C ) on the heatsink as well.
