> * COBOL -> language for writing executable documentation > > * FORTH -> kind of like assembler but harder to optimise > Those are great! I took a class in COBOL. We punched our cards, ghen walked over to the HP clone, loaded the cards and pushed start. I remember trying to debug a program. I eent to the instructor to ask for help. He looked at it for a while, yhen said "Sure glad it's your problem." The "executable documentation" is an excellent description of COBOL. I remember statements like: MULTIPLY A BY B GIVING C I think they later added this form: EXECUTE C=3DA*B On FORTH, I attended a class by Forth, Inc. and had an STD bus 6800 board with FORTH in ROM. Interesting, but I eventually licensed BASIC from Microsoft and wrote my interface in 6800 assembly (using a time share service called The Source, since I did not have a computer).
