I once was tasked with 'Xerox' copying a large-sized book, doing so
required that the safety  cover be removed. The book didn't quite
cover the entire window so that the first second of each scan was
flashing the edge of my left eye. Even though the window was glass and
the copier light was white, my left eye was 'sunburned'.

No permanent damage.
