Russell probably knows a bit more about this, but two things I have
heard are that there are different prices depending what continent you
are on, and also sometimes there are "night shifts" making parts on the
side.

Note that there are online discussions about these AD9850 chips and one
theory is that they are off-spec rejects that were diverted.
