As I understand it, one of the original reasons for not wanting to use
a normal plug is the possibility of damaging things by driving away
with the cable plugged in. In light of that, seeing as you have a
source of electricity coming in whenever the plug is attached, why not
just add an alarm that sounds when both switched battery line
(downstream of the ignition switch) and mains cable are powered?
