What sort of environment is this in? I can't imagine the range on this would be that far, could you find the source of the control? If the unit is expensive enough, it will have a "return to home" option that is automatically triggered by losing the control signal. Maybe if the signal were to get interrupted, you could follow it as it flew back home. It also might be worth talking to someone familiar with trespassing laws. IANAL so I have no idea how they apply to airspace, but there must be something in regards to this.
