Yes there are eight keys in an octave but inly seven intervals between
keys.  Since an "octave" is an interval made up of those seven smaller
intervals it would logically be called ot a septade or heptade.   To call
it an octave is as logical as saying that a fence with eight posts a metre
apart is eight metres long.
