I also highly recommend racheting type crimpers. If you are doing insulated-type barrel terminals, then I would get the proper crimper die for that. If you are doing uninsulated ones, there is usually more difference in the die than just lacking the portion to grab the insulation - I believe that the barrel crimp portion has a smaller diameter, too. I have a Paladin Tools crimper body with various dies and I like it very much. At work I also use a Greenlee version which is very similar and works very well. I have also used cheap ones which worked remarkably well but I think it is more hit or miss with the lower price ones. You may get a good one or you may not, and it is at least likely that the die will wear out quicker.
