Agreed.  I've seen that too.  The tests I do for it are to compare
timings between first-use-since-boot and subsequent-use, on the basis
that the operating system will have cached the filesystem data.

Measuring the disk access indicator time spent flashing can also be
somewhat indicative.  But gotta watch out for pulse extenders.

JPEG decompression and bit wrangling between the CPU, main memory, and
graphics memory, is usually the cause.
