The fact that scientists demand "good solid proof to the contrary" is what makes science the powerful thing that it is. NOPE's example of the reluctance to accept relativity is not really apposite since there was little experimental proof (only the "anomalous" precession of the perihelion of Mercury ) before the fifties.
