There was a whole other way of doing things before steppers,
servos, computers, or even electric power. I've been looking at
mechanisms for a while because some are just so elegant and/or
intriguing to the casual observer, like the Geneva drive and its
variations. In an age of screens it's nice to see something that
actually moves in real life

Many are unusual to see, often hidden in machinery. Most are
quite easily realisable in wood

One of these days I'm going to make the awesomest kinetic
sculpture
