A similar product is the Electric Imp [1], and on a recent theamphour podcast I heard one of the engineers say their competition is the Spark Core, and that the Spark Core can be used without the cloud. https://www.spark.io/dev-kits "What if I don't want to connect through the Cloud?" I like the idea of a product that doesn't get bound entirely to a cloud. I'm not sure I like one that can't be used without a cloud.
