Strange as it may seem, most every thing you need to start learning=20
about are best found on the net at youtube and wikipedia. Some of the=20
tutorials are better than others but you can shop around until you find=20
someone who is easy for you to understand. There does not seem to be any=20
upper end anymore either. Many of the best universities offer their=20
lectures for free!  There are a lot of flavors for free in education.=20
However, the schools do still charge big bucks for degrees.
Check out the LtSpice program. You no longer have to physically build a=20
circuit to test it. You can assemble and test it all on your computer!
Bear in mind none of this stuff is perfect. The world is a long way from=20
perfect but we are moving forward every minute. Many of the software=20
vendors provide free software for us Hobby types. A place called=20
Sourceforge has a huge site with free, open source software.
A lot of us rescue old hardware and bring it up on Linux to get others=20
going. You just have to let others know what you are doing...  There is=20
a lot of traveling to do via the internet for those of us who lack the=20
physical resources.
