John, I updated Java. I also installed MPLAB X 1.41. I have now tested=20 versions 1.41, 1.6, and 2.1. Sometimes 141 will load all of the way and=20 doesn't blowup until I try to open a project and sometimes it blows up=20 while the splash screen is up. 160 loads all of the way and then blows=20 up when I try to open a project. 210 blows up while the splash screen is=20 up and the modules are loading. When they crash I have to do a hardware=20 reset to regain control. Cntl-Alt-Del doesn't work. 892 works fine. What is puzzling is that X worked fine six months ago. And yes,=20 there was at least one Java update and maybe more. I have dug through=20 the faqs, done all kinds of google searches, sent requests to Microchip,=20 reinstalled XP, done checks on my hardware, reinstalled MpLabX all=20 versions several times, and I am completely lost. I'm a GUI kind of guy. I went from the C=3D 128 to the Amiga=20 platform. I didn't switch over to the PC until Win98 was available and I=20 still used my Amiga a lot. In fact I was still using my Amiga when XP=20 became available. I did do some dabbling in MSdos and I did a lot of dos=20 work on the Amiga but I prefer a GUI over a CMD line interface. I ran=20 SDCC with the help switch and wow are there a lot of commands. Thanks, rich! P.S. I'm leaving the text because it has the description of my computer. rich! On 7/3/2014 8:03 AM, John J.
