Bob Blick responded: >Shared drives on a network are probably at risk as well. >Sounds like surfing the web with a phone or tablet is the right way to live. No web browsing with your development machine! Shared drives are definitely at risk. This happened to one of my customers and it encrypted files on all shared drives seen, including some SAMBA shares from a Linux machine. The particular malware he encountered only hit shares that were mounted to drive letters, not unlettered (ie: UNC only) shares. You can also (relatively) safely do your surfing from within a virtual machine. That has the advantage that it is easy to copy and paste desired downloaded files from the VM to your 'real' machine. -- Bob Ammerman RAm Systems --=20 http://www.piclist.com/techref/piclist PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
