Yes and No, my boss went to a conference recently where this came up, and a=
 lead free bond is better - if the intermetallic layer is properly annealed=
 with suitable heating. This was in relation to using lead based solders in=
 space instruments. It looks like space flight soldering will also go lead =
free in due course.
