I think it depends on personality. I am 34 years old and I've always been fascinated by radio communication. It certainly was always a commonplace thing in my experience but that didn't deaden my interest. Also, if this were true, biology would never have taken off as a science since the creatures which fascinate biologists have mostly been around longer than homo sapiens itself.
