The end of last year I bought a 15amp TO-3 plastic NPN power transistor=20

"1 PCS 2SC3281 TO-3PL C3281 TO3PL TOSHIBA 200V"

It was for a dual 0-32V 5amp PSU I had bought with one faulty output
transistor
I fitted the replacement fired it up and the previously blown second output=
=20
Was working fine, until I shorted the output, then I ramped up to full 5A
current), 0.25 seconds later it failed=20

On disassembling (hammer on the side) the transistor I discovered the die
was 1/4 the size it should have been, paypal returned my money=20

Bought one from RS components and the PSU is now working fine,
......................... lesson learned

There are a lot of fakes that cannot be detected without proper testing=20
