I did do an occasional DIR (dark magic from before beginning if 1 Jan 1980) while it was building my local disk copy of files I'd copied from DropBox, and it seemed rather slow. BUT - This may be due to current demands by new signups (or not) - Slow is OK in many cases f its free and complementary to eg DropBox and other services AND your application is not speed-critical. eg as a means of mirroring or protecting a PC folder, sending material home from a mobile for 'when you get home', building a 'latest photo collection' in a country far far away that this may work with and other things don't etc then speed is non crucial as long as its say 10's of MB hour or better. (I transferred about 700 MB of data and I think it may have taken "some hours". ) _____________________________- If I understand correctly, the "automatic" system synchs a folder of your choice with their web copy and any other PCs sharing the folder. You can still access it manually outside this system if desired. ie use of the desktop app is optional once installed. ______________________________ I now have 25 GB allocated with another 10 GB 'in the pipeline' - so 35GB so far when that completes. 15 + 5 for installing app + 1 via Facebook + 2 via PICList (probably) "waiting for install" ______________________________ I used a 3rd party application "Mover" to COPY files from Dropbox. They offered it as part of the install. You need to grant Mover the complete access rights to Dropbox (or the portion you copy) to do this. I may change disable mover and/or change password. (Does having given it rights allow it to ask Dropbox for the new password or bypass it, is/was it heratburn affected, is ...? :- ) They call it Mover BUT it offered to copy. I copied. It used the term copy anywhere relevant. At the end it said it had moved the files. I have a backup but was unimpressed. BUT it had copies and not moved them.
