A detectable U-turn before transponder was disconnected would be very=20 careless, I would speculate that this could be intentional mis-information. However, the whole world is watching for intruders in there own=20 airspace. A quiet re-entry to controlled airspace could occur but it=20 would require resources of a military nature.
