You learn the basics from an engineering book or from the many sites online like allaboutcircuits. Wasting space in a magazine with things like this is highly disappointing. I wasn't alive during the 1950s and 60s, but I have my grandfather's magazines and books. There's so many interesting projects and articles in there and none of them wasted our time with things like Ohm's law.
