Free toolchains: - Launchpad: - Atmel supplies it own IDE and toolchain (Atmel Studio) for free. - Almost every other chip vendor have their own free toolchain too. Debugger: J-Link. It is very good and is supported by virtually every IDE. Not cheap though, at around US$250.00. The chip vendor locked units costs US$100.00, I have the Atmel SAM ICE. * Perhaps should not be said, but there are a lot of Chinese J-Link clones available for about US$10.00.
