Although I am not a "C" user, I've had people working with me who are=20 competent with it. The compiler that was chosen was from=20 CCS. It seems to work well. We purchased the PCWH package, which includes=20 the 12-bit-core & 14-bit-core PICs as well as the PIC18F=20 family. Price is $500 with annual maintenance costing $250. Note=20 that the compiler never expires or quits - maintenance just gives you=20 access to the latest versions. Although I don't understand "C", I've had to make changes to the code=20 that was written with the CCS compiler. It was easy to do. The last thing to note is that CCS makes it easy to add another PIC=20 family to whatever package you are currently using. For example, my=20 maintenance expired in September of 2012. Renewal is shown as=20 costing $250 and I have the option of adding the 24-bit parts (PIC24=20 & dsPIC) for an additional $100 (which also includes the following=20 year of updates). Seems pretty reasonable to me. I can't comment of code size compared to the other compilers out=20 there. I simply don't know. dwayne --=20 Dwayne Reid Trinity Electronics Systems Ltd Edmonton, AB, CANADA (780) 489-3199 voice (780) 487-6397 fax www.trinity-electronics.com Custom Electronics Design and Manufacturing --=20 http://www.piclist.com/techref/piclist PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
