Interesting. You don't mention if you're running W8.1, which is much friendlier to non-Metro enthusiasts. I ran Classic Shell for a bit, but found it is'nt necessary with 8.1, which can be configured to boot to the desktop. Of course I cheat & use a BT mouse & keyboard too, so I can just about (but not quite completely, yet) ignore Metro. The next W8.1 upgrade is a week or so off, according to http://www.neowin.net/news/report-windows-81-update-1-to-be-released-april-= 8th-msdn-gets-it-april-2nd The scuttlebutt is that the de-emphasis of Metro will continue. Suits me. My machine is 32-bit; so far legacy software (mostly programming stuff) seems to work without much fuss. A conspicuous exception is WinAVR, which has Make issues I've yet to resolve. Previous installations under W7 & XP "just worked", so I've got some reading to do. Probably take a shot at MPLABX next - The machine is much faster than its Atom predecessors, so it might be tolerable. Probably not going to do much image processing :) A reliable portable pgming platform is what I'm shooting for... --=20 http://www.piclist.com/techref/piclist PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
