You can sand the top face off, it's just soft aluminium, leaving the
die at the bottom of a tube, which can be filled with clear sealer,
lensed or not.

All the BC10x I ever converted had no paste inside and didn't
need cleaning. Never cut open a germanium transistor like the
AC126. Don't know what that paste is - possibly heatsink
compound. I'd have tried white spirits or acetone before carbon
