The HOT can be driven by its original HOT driver transistor and power supply as is afte= r a suitable self oscillating circuit is set up with one of the former voltag= e secondary outputs used to drive the base. 2 resistors and a cap are all tha= t is needed. Tried, works. Although I much preferred the PL509 vacuum tube version I made since it was indestructible and did not care if the HOT died= .. Also, it had built in fault condition indication. The anode (!) normally glows dull red in this 0.5A capable power pentode, if it glows bright red you have a fault and you have a couple of minutes to turn it off and find it, normally with no damage. The X-ray source operated by this combination was a DY87 kenotron whose 1.5V filament (battery + bell switch push button) was only usable for 5 seconds before it glowed red itself. Also 70kV sparks hurt badly. Be careful out there. -- Peter --=20 http://www.piclist.com/techref/piclist PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
