I'm largely self-taught in all my many varied jobs / hobbies and like
to think I see connections between them that the more-formally
trained in only one or two disciplines might not. Sometimes novelty
ensues. More usually just an interesting afternoon and a conversation
piece/

However, having had disagreements with my caller over such basics
as Ohm's Law (don't quite believe it), 1/2 CV^2 (just seems wrong),
FET protection in motor circuits (you shouldn't really need it, these are
faulty FETs, absolutely), how to solder a PCB without making a dog's
breakfast of it (all of these boards have internal shorts) etc etc I see
him more likely to be in the pigeon-hole marked Magoo rather than
Tesla.

And now the battery thing (those fat cat manufacturers don't want
you to know about the bicarb - honestly, that's what he said)

At best you could say he unintentionally runs a testing laboratory
producing quite predictable failures to confirm bad practice and
ignorance.
