I have zero experience with 2.5G but experience with UHF projects (long=20 ago!) leads me to feel that it is easier to build the whole RF chain. Amplifiers are prone to oscillation and feedback problems. Sometimes=20 they will run on more than one frequency which is not always easy to=20 diagnose. Also, maintaining clean modulation through an amplifier is not guaranteed. Hobby King does have some deals on xmtr/receiver combos.
