If you choose wxWidgets or other multi-platform framework, you may take days to understand how to write a simple hello world. Not that wxWidgets (or any other frameworks) is bad, it is just complex due to its GUI and cross-platform nature. As a friend of mine said once: "it is the more complex 'hello world' I have ever seen".
