Someone should mention Java.  There are lots of Java environments for Windo=
ws, and it seems to be the darling of programming classes, so there is a LO=
T of help and support available.  It seems to be adequate for doing a lot o=
f stuff (Arduino and MPIDE are written in Java, as is Netbeans (which is at=
 the heart of MPLABX))
