I am wondering if they have been a bit cheap and used something like an Eth=
ernet interface transformer with multiple transformers in one package, inst=
ead of using a proper mains isolation pulse transformer. Rather naughty if =
they have.

Another possibility is that it is used to generate an isolated power supply=
 connected to the mains voltage for some sensing circuitry?
