I recently put together a new computer and went from Windows 7 on the old one to Windows 8.1 on the new. Several times on the first day I came very close to wiping Windows 8.1 and installing Windows 7 but I'm glad I stuck i= t out. Windows 8.1 is much faster, especially on boot up. (Yes, some of the speed is from the new hardware.) My problem was finding things. For example, joining a domain uses the exact same screen as Windows 7 but it is buried so deep it took a long google search to figure out how to get there. Now that I've figured out how they hide things (don't want users to see all that nasty technical stuff) I thin= k Windows 8.1 is a big improvement although I must confess I work primarily from the old desktop and I don't have a touch screen. I was pleasantly surprised that all my old programs seem to work, even my version of WordPerfect which the Upgrade Advisor said was not compatible.=20 Allen --=20 http://www.piclist.com/techref/piclist PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
