Phil, Instead of using low range 2.4GHz, why not using a rfPIC12F675(F,G,H) for the various ISM frequencies (315, 43= 3, 866 or 915) for your sensors, and one receiver + small PIC (I forgot the= part number) for your slave with display. Microchip sells kits to do just that and they are inexpensive.
