I'm using the 43K20 and struck just one problem

I have Olin Lathrop's USBProgs. Olin knows his stuff re
programmers and I have confidence in his, and used them across
every PIC family, even in some quite demanding ICSP situations

Out of a tube of 25, several wouldn't program reliably. Code
would go in once but not twice, rendering them useless

Noting that these were Rev1 chips I sampled more, but they were
also Rev1, which cut off that line of investigation

On the recommendation of Microchip Support I borrowed an
ICD3 and both upgraded Olin's code and tried the 43K20 that
were troublesome

There was some improvement but there are still a couple that
are flakey with both an ICD3 and a USBProg

Until I get chips that aren't Rev1 I can't be absolutely sure that
the early releases of some or all of this family are not perfect but
experience with two reputable programmers suggests they aren't,
and in the most annoying way. There's no work-around for not
being able to download code
