The student I was working with graduated and I've been too swamped to find anyone else to carry the flag or to make progress on it myself. The it got complicated because a few months ago I got sidetracked by the PIC 24F16FV family of 5V parts. I got to the point where I could program them with my PicKit 2, pk2cmd, and an updated PK2Device file using one of the decoder/encoder systems that's posted in the Microchip forums. I want to transfer my bootloader and FORTH to this family in the worst way as the chips have all 16 W registers that are 16 bit and can all be used in indirect mode. It would be an awesome FORTH platform to operate from. The last I worked on that project, I had gotten stuck getting the hardware UART working so that I could start doing some debugging. I happen to know my worst personality trait when it comes to this kind of stuff. I'm always interested in seeking out new ways of getting things done. I find shiny objects attractive. However, the task of supporting such infrastructure: not so much. Releasing anything means maintaining a support forum. answering questions, fixing problem. And because I'm a Linux guy who pretty much refuses to use MPLAB/MPLABX a lot of the support questions will come from platorms that I don't use regularly and would find difficult to support. The bottom line is if anyone wants to have at my stuff in a barely beta state and minimal support, I'll happily send you what I have. But in terms of a wide release with anything close to real support? Not happening any time soon.
