I re-found the recent comments re long ago matters while doing an unrelated
search.

Arguably better left alone but, if anyone finds anything worth commenting
on they should start a new [OT] thread of their own - that follows current
list rules.

Of interest is that the thread contains much that would be shut down very
promptly nowadays (politics, ...)  BUT also much that would be acceptable
now but which was apparently a bit radical even in OT for some back then.
The concept that what was in OT need not affect eg [PIC] if kept in
isolation seemed, back-then, hard to grasp to some whereas it nowadays
seems to be accepted.
