I remember my parents having several houses rewired to the 'new standard' b=
ack in the 1970s. It was common for a  5Amp socket to be left in a downstai=
rs room for a standard or table lamp. Of course, in those days, four socket=
s in a room was considered quite extravagant and you could remove a light b=
ulb and plug in an adapter to take power from the lighting circuit , I've n=
ot seen one of those adapters for a while either.
