Lindy, To get you started, I would avoid using huge FPGA that needs huge programs = for development. Start with XO2 dev board for $26 and download Lattice Diamond for free. You can get your feet wet with that and then upgrade to bigger things when = you are fluent with VHDL or Verilog I do not have any relationship with any FPGA vendor, just I enjoyed working= with the XO2 family. =A0 Good luck, Jean-Paul AC9GH "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb deciding what to have for dinner.=20 Liberty is a well-armed lamb." - Benjamin Franklin - ________________________________ From: Lindy Mayfield To: Microcontroller discussion list - Public. =20 Sent: Thursday, October 3, 2013 12:39 PM Subject: RE: [OT] Hobbyist FPGA development boards? =20 That looks nice.=A0 But to be super sure I'm in the right place, What I wan= t to do is write in some HDL, connect Nots, Nands, Ors, Muxen, all together= an design my own CPU, as well as memory?=A0 I'm in the right place with FP= GA's yes?=A0 And if so, is this something the Arduino IDE does?=A0 I downlo= aded Xlinx Vivado, because that's what I thought it does, but it is such a = huge monster of a program that I couldn't install it on my laptop. Full disclosure: I work for SparkFun. https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11158 The Papilio board is aimed at hobbyists, and has a tool suite and backing m= aterials intended to make FPGA development easier.
