The LTC3300 data sheet shows a configuration with an

LTC6803 battery monitor chip, which includes temp sensing.

You're right - It's pricey stuff. I have no doubt you can do it

better & cheaper - Whether I can is another matter...  :)

That Digikey has them in stock does'nt hurt either.

My rationale for LiFePO4 is cycle life, not mass. The lower

cell voltage of NiMH means a lot more cells to manage, so

why NiMH? (I'm interested, not arguing...)
