Hi:

Just buy flat top cells with tabs already welded on.
The tab is Nickel and very easy to solder.
By folding the tab you can get any battery orientation you might want.
Shrink tubing in various large diameters and short lengths is also availabl=
e to hole the pack together.
A company I've used for doing this is BatterySpace.com.

Since they also sell battery packs you might find the one you need already =
made.
