Spot welding is what I'll do. I can probably do it with my spare car
battery since the weld doesn't need to be big and I don't mind multiple
welds per terminal.

I don't trust the morons on the Internet anyway. They all just seem to
be copying each other's MS paint diagrams. Thyristors for an AC spot
welder makes sense. But what's the point for a capacitor discharge/DC
spot welder? Unless, of course, it's a gate turn off thyristor or
something like that.

I'm thinking a few (8) MOSFETs in parallel rated for ~250A pulse and a
12V car battery will work. Large flyback diode across welding terminals,
of course.
