They all just seem to be copying each other's MS paint diagrams. Thyristors for an AC spot welder makes sense. But what's the point for a capacitor discharge/DC spot welder? Unless, of course, it's a gate turn off thyristor or something like that. I'm thinking a few (8) MOSFETs in parallel rated for ~250A pulse and a 12V car battery will work.
