You can use the phone without a carrier network if you have wifi.
   You cant make phonecalls on it unless it has Skype or other services
   that use wifi instead of a carrier network.

   Now this may be a rather obvious question, but its coming from someone
using a 'feature' phone (LG Octane).  Do you need to have an Android phone
on a carrier network in order to use the wifi?  Ie...is the phone locked ou=
t
from being used at all unless you have a contract with someone?
