The great success as a 'social network', Facebook, tends to spam all and sundry with 'friend' requests at every opportunity and also on other occasions :-). It usually does this in the name of the person whose account it originates the request from, but without informing them that it has done it. It even usually hides such requests from the originator and to see them you may need to be some other account holder. Googletalk and the rest are social network wannabees. One of Google's starting stated aims was "don't be evil" but in a world where most other organisations are evil by default, that's a bit of an ask, and Google has been trying to redefine the meaning of "evil" ever since. If I received requests from CD for GoogleTalk, Facebook, Linked in (they arrive regularly) or Starfire Zhu, I would not necessarily assume CD had had any active or knowing involvement.
