It is easier to see the decomposition of the lead plates in a normal
water-based battery.  It is no more the same chemistry structure.  I
can't bear to throw some good heavy ones away, though they can't
perform as a 12V rated SLAB, they can still perform at 10V or 8V, and
they are being using them to capture solar in the day, and charging my
portable at night.
