This sounds like riding an Indian Chief Motorcycle. With a right handed stick shift and right handed hand brake you frequently had to reach across with your left hand to apply the brake while shifting. With the Indian you could lay it over until the floorboards scraped (We didn't have foot pegs.) then crank the throttle and it would straighten right back up again. Like riding a giant gyroscope. Of course you had to actually have some space in front of you when doing this.
