That was couple of years ago ;-) Now you just do the activation without any
PC or Mac involved. You only need iCloud password or Apple ID if you want
to use that (well, pretty much if you want to download anything from
AppStroe you need an Apple ID, but still, it is up to you to decide if you
need iCloud).

Linux doesn't require an account :)
