I was in the "biotech"/clinical test development arena from 1970 - 2000.... the problems then (and I suspect now) are that the hematocrit (solid versus liquid ("serum") was difficult to evaluate and since solute concentration depends on solvent volume the result was not accurate (versus a lab result)= .. Regardless of how you detect and quantitate the glucose concentration, the 'crit needs to be known. The systems we were developing used microcapillar= y tubing to separate and deduce the 'crit (you needed a detector to find the meniscus of the total volume and then the solid component/serum interface t= o get the 'crit.... with micro everything today perhaps that's how they do it (I doubt it).... =20 I haven't reviewed the current state of things. =20 FYI..... Subject: Re: [PIC]Glucose sensor I agree with that. Must take time to read it. I have a couple vested interests in the technology. One is that as a diabetic, I want to know how the market for testing supplies works. =20 Companies give the meters (thus the sensors), knowing the cost will be=20 recovered many times selling the test strips. And the same companies=20 that make the test strips probably want to block the regulators from approving any non-invasive technologies that can be implemented without tes= t strips. The other interest is Grove Instruments (formerly Vivascan) in Worcester MA is very close by, I have been there for clinical tests, and my diabetes doc is on the board. I would like to get work there, but would probably need t= o wait until they are in production. Their last open position was for an algorithm scientist with PHD. FYI Test strips range in cost from about $0.30 to $2.00 and are needed abou= t 4 times per day. So that is where the money is.
